Brillante fin d'année pour les étudiantes du Master Médiation

Les six étudiantes de la promotion 08|09 du Master médiation ont brillamment présenté la Danse macabre de Saint-Saëns et deux autres œuvres du répertoire symphonique à des enfants d’école primaire.

Six concerts ont été donnés en juin à la maison de l'orchestre à Alfortville. Six cents enfants ont pu découvrir grandeur nature les instruments et écouter l'orchestre dirigé par Dmitry Yablonsky, le tout servi sur un plateau par de jeunes médiatrice enthousiastes.

Les musiciens, le jury et le public ont salué la qualité du travail accompli et le professionnalisme des futures médiatrices.

Festivals et hors séries de l'été

Un air de vacances souffle sur l'orchestre : entre festivals et hors séries, il clôt sa saison 08/09 avec panache et légèreté.

Au programme, un répertoire éclectique qui surfe sur les vagues jazzy et funky de Nosfell, George Benson et Michel Legrand et le grand répertoire symphonique.

Le festival est l'occasion pour l'orchestre de jouer sur des scènes magnifiques : le Théâtre impérial de Compiègne ou le Parc du Château de Florans à la Roque d'Anthéron et de faire de belles rencontres musicales : Dmitry Yablonsky, Boris Berezovski, Jean-Frédéric Neuburger, Mariya Kim, Dimitri Liss…

The world's 10 most inspiring orchestras

James Inverne reveals the results of a Gramophone survey into orchestras that change lives

After Gramophone’s recent and very widely discussed poll to determine “The world’s 20 greatest orchestras”, many readers responded that they would like something to follow that would specifically focus on the inspiring social role that orchestras can play. We agree. At a time when bands are seeing their funding threatened left, right and centre, and one suspects that governments are covetously eyeing their arts budgets, it is not at all a bad idea to remind ourselves of the hugely positive role that music can play in society.

So Gramophone’s editors sought advice from a consulting jury comprising leading instrumentalists, who after all spend their lives immersing themselves in the activities of lots of different orchestras around the world. Fascinating suggestions were forthcoming from Sarah Chang, Julian Lloyd Webber, Natalie Clein, Cyprien Katsaris, Yevgeny Sudbin, Philippe Graffin and Xuefei Yang. The aim was to compile a celebratory list of ten of the world’s most inspiring orchestras (as distinct from any consideration of their technical or artistic abilities, and acknowledging that creating great music is in itself an inspiration for many).

Predictably, there were many more worthy contenders than we could squeeze in. Therefore, honourable mentions go to the likes of (deep breath) the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra with their enterprising “Auditori Educa” scheme, the Los Angeles Philharmonic where the “Dudamel effect” is being taken up with alacrity by players who relish the idea of reaching new inner-city audiences, the ever-vibrant National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, the BBC Concert Orchestra who bring music to care homes and hospitals, the San Francisco Symphony’s multimedia outreach efforts and the Malaysian Philharmonic’s efforts to bring Western classical music to a country and society who had never previously been exposed to it.

However, there were ten who seemed as worthy as any of especial recognition at this moment. They are, in no particular order :
